When it comes to cars, there are often different models with similar names, which can be confusing for buyers. This is especially true for Mazda’s SUV lineup, which includes the CX-3, CX-5, and two more recent additions: the CX-4 and CX-30. In this article, we’re going to explore the differences between these two models and help you figure out which one might be right for you.

What is the Mazda CX-4?

Is CX4 the Same as CX-30?

The Mazda CX-4 is a compact crossover SUV that was first introduced in 2016. It’s designed primarily for the Chinese market and is only available there. The CX-4 sits between the smaller CX-3 and larger CX-5 in terms of size, but it has a unique styling that sets it apart from those models.

What is the Mazda CX-30?

The Mazda CX-30, on the other hand, is a global model that was introduced in 2019. It’s also a compact crossover SUV but has a different design and overall feel than the CX-4. The CX-30 sits between the smaller CX-3 and larger CX-5 in terms of size as well but is marketed towards a wider audience.

Exterior Design Is CX4 the Same as CX-30

One of the most noticeable differences between these two models is their exterior design. The most prominent feature of the Mazda CX-4’s exterior design is its sloping roofline, which gives it a sporty look. Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-30 has a more traditional SUV design with straight lines and less emphasis on sportiness.

Interior Design Is CX4 the Same as CX-30

The interior design of both models also differs significantly. The Mazda CX-4 features an upscale interior with high-quality materials throughout. However, because it’s designed for China only, some may find that its layout doesn’t suit them entirely.

The Mazda Cx 30, on the other hand, offers a more conventional interior design with an emphasis on practicality. The infotainment system is centrally mounted and easy to access, making it simple for drivers to operate while driving.

Engine and Performance Is CX4 the Same as CX-30

The mechanical differences between these two models are also significant. In China, the CX-4 is available with either a 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 horsepower, respectively. Both engines come paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Mazda CX-30 is available with a few different engine options globally. The base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 148 horsepower and comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a more powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces up to 186 horsepower and comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Fuel Efficiency Is CX4 the Same as CX-30

When it comes to fuel efficiency, both models are relatively similar despite having different engines in them. The CX-4 gets about 25 mpg combined on the Chinese test cycle, while the CX-30 gets around 27 mpg combined in the United States.

Safety Features Is CX4 the Same as CX-30

Both models offer similar safety features such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking as standard equipment in most markets.

These two models may have some similarities in terms of size and general concept but have significant differences when it comes to their exterior design, interior layout, engine choice as well as availability in different markets around the world.

If you’re looking for a relatively sporty-looking compact SUV that’s only available in China or want an upscale-feeling interior, you might consider the Mazda CX-4. However, if you want something more traditional-looking with practicality at its core that’s widely available worldwide then definitely give the Mazda CX-30 some serious consideration. Ultimately, the choice between these two models will depend on what you’re looking for in a car and which features are most important to you.
